Urewera hill country, Whakatane
The Te Wharehou O Tuhoe project as it was the first ever living building built in New Zealand, this project took a year to complete and is our biggest achievement to date.
It is part of The Living Building Challenge (LBC). The Living Building Challenge comprises seven performance areas: site, water, energy, health, materials, equity and beauty.
It calls for the creation of building projects at all scales that operate as cleanly, beautifully and efficiently as natural architecture. This approach is consistent with Tūhoe values and principles.
The building is New Zealand’s first to accomplish this concept, and one of only 15 certified Living Buildings in the world at that time.
